Perhaps a bit of an issue with too many flies. Sitting by the runway at one of our game camps.
Even Your Mom Thinks You're Ugly
Crocodile in the Okavango Delta, Botswana. No redeeming features. There were a lot of well-fed crocs in this area.
The Less-Than-Mighty Zambezi
Sunrise on the Zambezi River, Zambia. It's usually referred to as the "Mighty Zambezi," but this was the dry season, so you could probably paddle across it without too much trouble. Of course, then a croc would get you...
Termite Construction
South African sunset next to a termite mound - of which there are many.
Drinks on the Road
Of course, all good game drives finish with sunset drinks and snacks. And sometimes, we wait around for moonrise and come back in the dark.
Game Drive Luxury
This is the usual game drive configuration, which is three rows of seats on top of a Land Cruiser body. The trick is to avoid the row furthest in the back, where you can really get jounced around. My Garmin watch actually recorded 12,000 steps in one day while I was sitting in the back row.
Civilized Game Viewing
Why bother to go on a safari when you can view animals from the breakfast table? A fellow diner spotting something outside at the Ngoma game camp.
One Extra Head
One of the other guides radioed in this kill, so we hustled over for a viewing of a cheetah having dinner. Don’t mind the extra head in the corner.
Naturally Grumpy
The cape buffalo is probably the single most unpredictable animal in Africa, and the one most likely to charge you. Chobe National Park, Botswana.
Big Bullets
The flip side of photo safaris is that the guide carries a .375 Holland & Holland big game rifle. One of our guides recently had to put down a cape buffalo that was charging. These are the bullets - not small.
Yes, That is Sewage
Hippos just love to stew in their own, well…
Giraffes in Abundance
We saw hundreds of giraffes, especially in the Chobe National Park area in Botswana. This one was next to the road in Mala Mala Game Reserve, South Africa.
White-Fronted Bee Eater
There are many of these birds in the Kruger National Park and Mala Mala Game Reserve areas.
Lion Cubs Everywhere
This was one of four lion cubs we spotted at Mala Mala Game Reserve in South Africa. They were sleeping through the heat of the day with their moms.
View of the Atlantic
Here is a nice view of the Atlantic from the Hercules Cave, near Tangier, Morocco. The outline looks sort of like a reversed Africa.
When in Morocco...
You have to ride a camel on the beach. Here is Melissa doing her duty.
Gibraltar Monkeys
Gibraltar is lousy with monkeys. Here is a mom and its baby.
Inside the Cordoba Mosque
We found just one person in the mosque section of the Cordoba mosque-cathedral. A nice photo.
View of the Cordoba Mosque-Cathedral
The combined mosque and cathedral in Cordoba, as seen from a nearby Roman bridge.
Andalusian Bell Tower
This is a classic example of a bell tower as seen from a narrow city street that is choked with flower pots.
